I recently started thinking about writing a tool to dynamically generate documentation from WSDL files. I?ve learned over the years to Google/Bing these things before sitting down to write a bunch of code. Upon doing so, I discovered a tool called TechWriter for Web Services 2007 from Adivo.
The application has many features that I wouldn?t have thought to implement and it can produce output in various formats. I personally don?t find the format of the output to be exactly the way I would do it, but it certainly gets you off to a great start. It seems to represent the schema very closely and as such is not as human readable as I would like.
In summary, it?s an extremely useful utility that helps make the tedious task of documenting web services a lot more efficient. Give it a try.
My favorite feature allows you to override the descriptions of the various methods, elements and objects. If you value your time it?s well worth the $99.
